Year 7 Get it Write!
In November we were lucky enough to be visited by noted children’s author Philip Ardagh, who joined us to talk to our Year 7s about life as a writer .
Mr Ardagh is a Roald Dahl Funny Prize winning author with over 100 books under his belt, including Grubtown Tales and the Grunts series, so we were delighted to have him talk to our pupils about his life and career. Standing over two metres tall with a ridiculously big, bushy beard and size sixteen feet, Philip was an instantly recognisable figure to our Year 7s who were thoughoughly entertained by his hilarious and interactive assembly in front of the year group.
Afterwards, a select group of our students took part in a special workshop in the school’s Reading Suite where they and Mr. Ardagh created three truly unique stories together before each receiving a signed copy of his latest book ‘The Grunts All at Sea.’ It was really great to see the minds of our young pupils lit up to the power of creative writing thanks to Philip’s witty personality and quirky imagination.
We even got a signature from the bearded one himself when he signed our reading throne. Thanks so much Philip!
