Women in Engineering
We took eight of our Year 10 girls to Sunderland College for a Women in Engineering event. The day focused on the wide range of opportunities in the engineering sector and aimed to highlight to the girls that this was not just a male oriented career. Throughout the day the girls explored the new campus looking at the massive amount of equipment available to prepare them for work in the engineering world. Whilst exploring the different areas the girls had the chance to try out some of the 3D printing techniques which they used to print the casing for a torch, the CNC machines where they engraved their names on the casing and then the electronics department where they could make their personalised torch work. They also looked at pneumatics and had a go at chocolate welding. Our students had a fantastic time and left with a changed perspective of engineering.
