Week of European Languages
Last week we were celebrating European Day of Languages and our students have loved getting out of their comfort zones and trying something different.
We’ve had such a busy week exploring how mutual respect and tolerance of those with different languages, faiths and beliefs can ensure that the world that we live in is a much more positive place to be. Students have been trying out a range of languages, entering competitions and taking part in webinars with students from around the continent as well as GCHQ and the British Council.
On Monday we had a packed first day for our Duolingo club with students starting to learn Russian, Japanese, German and many more new languages. On Wednesday our keen footballers took part in a Spanish football lesson at lunchtime where they learned to shout instructions in Spanish, Messi eat your heart out! On Thursday staff across the Academy embraced European Day of Languages by dressing up in European nation themed fancy dress and staff and students have voted for their favourites. There was even a Highland Games inspired PE lesson from our PE department who were representing Scottish Gaelic!
We’ve had so much fun introducing some classes to international sign language, trying tongue twisters in Romanian and even guess the language water pistol tests!
Congratulations to the school office team, who won the fancy dress competition representing Spain.
