The STEM Truck Parks Up at SHV
Last week the STEM truck came to Sandhill View and allowing our Year 8 students to engage and interact with a range of activities that are linked to STEM careers and the science that underpins them, by exploring the physics of motorsport through materials, power and aerodynamics.
They had the opportunity to learn about 3-D printing and undertake simple CAD design on tablets. Students also constructed electrical circuits to power flying saucers and sirens and learn about what can affect and increase electrical power. They were able to build an aerodynamic structure from plastic and paper which was then tested in a wind tunnel, learning about splitters, spoilers and the Venturi effect and how this effects aircraft engineering.
