The Pandemic Project
Year 8 students from Southmoor and Sandhill took part in an exclusive ‘Pandemics Through Time’ project with Newcastle University and Durham University. They spent 4 days exploring both historic pandemics and COVID-19 through different academic lenses. Students visited Newcastle University, and spent time in the labs making their own tinctures and poultices to cure cholera. We visited Durham University, and explored old texts from the Great Plague as well as visiting the Oriental Museum to understand the creation of an exhibit. Students worked with an artist from Hatten Gallery, making their own creative responses to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, students created their own archive which will be exhibited online for the general public to view.
