The Goings Good!
It’s Official, Sandhill View Academy is a ‘Good’ School
Staff and students at Sandhill View Academy are delighted to be officially recognised as a good school in all areas, following their recent Ofsted inspection.
In his feedback to senior leaders, lead inspector Carl Sugden captured the essence of Sandhill View; a community which is built on positive relationships. In his final report he acknowledged that ‘behaviour is good’, ‘pupils feel safe and secure because the staff know them well’ and they ‘appreciate the support and help that they get from their teachers.’
The report evaluated the quality of education and highlighted the hard work that leaders have put into developing an ambitious curriculum which ‘challenges pupils’, encourages them to aim high and builds connections with the world of work . He recognised that ‘pupils work hard in their lessons’ and ‘learn effectively because they enjoy learning, and their behaviour is good.’ Inspectors were also impressed at the extensive range of additional activities on offer, ranging from drama and music to a ‘girls into engineering’ programme. Inspectors confirmed that the extensive personal development provision is having a positive impact, because ‘pupils can speak confidently about tolerance, respect and moral issues.’
The report also praised the school for its support for children with special educational needs and disabilities, stating that ‘Pupils with SEND achieve well because they get the right support. All teachers have information and training to adapt the curriculum to individual needs. There is a culture of high ambition for pupils with SEND.’
Recommendations for further improvements included promoting the importance of attending school to pupils, to ensure gaps in knowledge are addressed.
After receiving the report, Headteacher Jill Dodd said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to be officially recognised as a good school. We have faced challenging times over the past 20 months, and I would like to thank everyone in our community for their contributions and continued commitment to improving the lives of the children we serve.’
Joanne Maw, CEO, added ‘The pupils, staff and local community of Sandhill View Academy should be incredibly proud. To have the quality of provision recognised in such a positive report is an achievement at any time, but to emerge from a pandemic whilst simultaneously maintaining such a tight focus on school improvement is testament to the professionalism and dedication of staff, the hard work of pupils and the excellent support from their parents and families.’
