The Book Club is back.
The VI Book Club will be starting up again this month. The Book Club is the only club in the country of its type for children with visual impairment and we are delighted that it is to continue this year. Sandhill View pupils with visual impairment have attended the club on a monthly basis for many years. The club is ran in juxtaposition with the Library Service adjacent to the school and Wendy is our librarian. The pupils in current attendance to the club are Jack Coates, Ben Billingsley, Julius Fanggo, Christian Robson and Chloe Gorringe.
We are proud to shout about our links with the RNIB and Loughborough University who have recently been involved with us in a research study looking at the aspects of KS3 children with visual impairment in contexts of their reading for pleasure.
However, listening to audio books is not all that we do at the club. Pupils involved have recently made their own tactile reading books for the nursery children at the Little Angels Nursery. Their tactile books were presented to the children in the library.
And finally, pupils attending the Book Club are rewarded with a day out of fun at Christmas time and during the summer term.
Roll on Christmas…
