Sandhill Lions Roar
Our Year 7 boys football team have had a fantastic start to the season with a 4-3 victory over Castle View Academy in their first game.
The Sandhill footballing fortress and new strips were put to the test this week in our first home game hosting Red House Academy. On the back of last week’s win and with only a few changes to the starting nine, Sandhill were hoping for a repeat performance, however Red House had other ideas.
A fast and tricky winger began causing early problems for the home side and soon Sandhill were 1-0 down. This was the wakeup call the boys needed n and Sandhill were soon level thanks to a Phillip Taylor equaliser. Not deterred, Red House pressured and were soon rewarded with another goal to put the score at 2-1. Thanks to a calm style of play, with the boys acting on feedback from their coach, the scores were soon level again with a goal from John Lee. A second and third for Taylor and another for Elliot Patterson had the halftime score comfortable in Sandhill’s favour at 5-2.
The second half began with a very determined Red House scoring a quick goal to it 5-3. Would this be that start of a late game comeback? Not with Taylor on the pitch! A free kick from outside the box rocketed through the wall, leaving the keeper stranded and giving Talyor his fourth goal of the game.
Play then became a hot-potato style game with both teams winning and loosing possession, both cancelling out any form of advance and both displaying their tackling ability.
A perfectly timed substitution towards the end of the game allowed Elliot Patterson to score a long range screamer with his first touch of re-joining play.
Final whistle and the scores were Sandhill View Academy 7 – Red House Academy 3.
A second win to our campaign shows the intent and force we are as a team this year, and that’s exactly what the boys are; a team.
Next Year Seven game is Monday 16th October, Away to St. Aidans.
