Phoenix Fun with the Fire Service
Over this term we have been lucky enough to offer some of our Year 10 students the opportunity to engage with the Phoenix Project.
These 10 young people have completed their final three days on the Phoenix Project at Sunderland Central Fire Station. After completing six days in total, they have covered fire fighting skills, first aid skills and plenty of teamwork and communication. They had a passing out parade that school and their parents got to attend. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to go and see them in the full kit and complete a rescue from the fire house, the strength, determination and passion they have shown during their time with the fire fighters has been outstanding. They have all learnt a lot not only about firefighting and teamwork but also about themselves and their own abilities to be able to conquer fears and face them head on and then overcome them. Something they will all be able to put into practice in real life.
Our staff were delighted to chat with their incredibly proud parents who were all full of praise for the course and the team leaders as well as being thankful to the school for giving them this opportunity.
Our young people have impressed the team leaders so much they been asked back in November to complete a further two days of training to look at how further training can be offered when the programme is rolled out to the Newcastle area. Something they are all very excited to attend.
Such a pleasure to get fantastic feedback on our young people from Sandhill View. Well done to everyone involved!
