Looking Into Sunderland’s Tech Talent
On Tuesday 18th February Mrs McKinnell and a group of year 11 students were invited to Sunderland Software City for the Tech Talent Expo. During our visit we had a talk from the owner of INFINITY27; INFINITY27 is based in Gateshead it is an open game studio and Unreal Authorised Training Centre acting as the next-generation talent pipeline for the games industry.
The talk included information about a wide range of different job opportunities within the gaming industry and training opportunities which INFINITY27 offer to potential game designers. The second talk was from Jamie Wardle Regional Cyber Choices officer.
Jamie spoke to the group about the Computer Misuse Act, and the dangers of sharing too much information online. Jamie also spoke about how AI has been used by cyber-criminals to create blackmail images. Students were also given the opportunity to walk around a range of different stalls; the stalls included information about apprenticeships, colleges, universities and employers within the Tech Industry. Some students took part in interactive activities such as the VR headsets, Sphere coding and interacting with Sunderland University’s robotic dogs.
