In Memory of Mr. Ken Field
It’s with great sadness that we recently learned that Mr Field, a former Thorney Close and Sandhill View member of staff, recently passed away. Here, staff share their fond memories of him.
‘During my time at Thorney Close Ken Field was a hugely admired teacher with the vast majority of pupils. He had such a way of commanding respect without having to say very much at all. His trips to Derwent Hill were renowned and he was a great lover of the outdoors.
On a personal level he was such a big influence for me through a very vulnerable time of my life offering support both in and out of school.’
‘Ken was a fabulous man. Supportive, friendly, gentle, caring, liked to wear a designer suit, always eating apples! Very popular with everyone – a total gentleman. He was committed to his pastoral work and supported countless children and families. I never heard anyone say anything bad about him and remember that he had a wickedly dry sense of humour!
I had the pleasure of working with him as a young teacher and I learned a great deal from just watching the way he quietly interacted with students. He was always a listening ear and a source of advice and support for them.
He spent a great deal time volunteering as a local magistrate also. He was a true family man too – always talking proudly about his wife and son.’
Mr Field’s family and friends are held dearly in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.
