Film Making Fun
On Thursday afternoon, a group of GCSE Media students (listed below) had the opportunity to participate in a filmmaking workshop with the team from Turps Film, a North East film studio who have worked on films and animations for corporate videos, promotional films, online content and other forms of creative storytelling. The company was recently engaged by Public Health Sunderland to create a short animated film about the truth surrounding vaping, aimed at 10 to 16-year-olds in the local area. Ten of our pupils, were tasked with the job of reading, editing and feeding back their thoughts on the initial script for the film, then considering storyboard ideas and suggesting the kinds of visual art style, graphic elements, typography and even sound design that might be employed in the final product.
Our guests were very impressed by each and every one of the pupils who attended and blown away by their behaviour, attitude, demeanour and engagement. Moreover, their contributions showcased the extremely high level of education provided here at SHV, and the visiting team – which also included members of Sunderland City Council and Public Health Sunderland – simply could not stop praising the incredible input from our students.
Indeed, they were so overwhelmed that they have asked the same students to adapt the script and then send it to them, at which point they will come back to SHV to record voiceover with some of those pupils.
Well done to: Oreofe Adepoju, Jessica Amanfo, Jaxon Dagg, Dawson Ellis, Elizabeth Iwu, Daniel Lawrence, Logan Palmer, Isabel Salkeld, Olivia Smithson and Cori Thirkell for their fantastic input.
