Eco Team is Go for Green
We launched our Eco team in full, with the new members having a chance to share their opinions and ideas with local leaders who visited us in school, including Leader of Sunderland City Council and Chair of the North East Combined Authority, Councillor Graeme Miller and Catherine Hearne, non-executive director at Together for Children. Pupils chatted about their work spearheading our schools eco drive, including collecting crisp packets to recycle into blankets for the homeless, promoting the use of new recycle bins around the school, planting 450 trees to offset carbon emissions and working with school leaders to eliminate single use plastics from the school dining hall. Students also had their chance to share their opinions about the recent COP26 climate summit in Glasgow. They were also interviewed by a reporter from the Echo, the article can be found below.
Cllr Miller said of our students: ‘I was really impressed with how these young people want to bring about change. Listening to these young people is vital in our quest to become a carbon neutral city.’
Thank you to Cllr Miller and Mrs Hearne for taking the time to visit out students and engage with them on what in undoubtedly a very important issue for our younger generations.
