CSI: Sandhill
Last Wednesday saw the final meeting with the student mentors. The group of Year 10s were also treated as part of the ‘STEM Like Us’ programme to a forensic science workshop where they got to work in teams to compete, not only against each other but against other schools to determine who killed Kylie. Students in the Holmes group managed to work so well together that they knocked Durham Federation off the leadership board and now stand in 5th place across the entire country! All groups came in the top 20% of schools.
Throughout the session they tested blood samples and completed quite a challenging electrophoresis task. They received points for accuracy, speed and, most importantly, teamwork. All student feedback was positive and all who took part enjoyed the day.
