British Sign Language Week 2025
Last week in school we participated in British Sign Language Week 2025. This year’s theme is: “More than a language: culture, community and belonging”. The aim of the campaign is to encourage people of all ages across the UK to take up the challenge of learning BSL for themselves and finding out more about the language and culture of the Deaf, Deafblind and hard of hearing British people for whom BSL is their first or preferred language.
We encouraged our students to try out some basic signs and gestures, introducing them throughout form classes during the week and showing examples on the TV screens around the school site for young people to have a go. Meanwhile the members of our Deaf school community had fun making their own renditions of the official Deaf flag.
