Health Matters
On Wednesday, five of our most conscientious and hard-working Year 9 pupils attended the Sunderland Youth Health Summit. This event, the first of its kind, was designed to give the young people of Sunderland a unique opportunity to learn about and discuss issues surrounding all aspects of health. In attendance were representatives of a range of local agencies including; Sunderland City Council, Together for Children, Healthwatch Sunderland, the University of Sunderland and the Foundation of Light.
The event was divided into a series of workshops, each designed to address one or more of the following issues: mental health and wellbeing, physical health and activity, sexual health, substance abuse prevention, and healthy eating. Crucially, each one provided our young people with the chance to voice their opinions and, ultimately, help shape the way things are done in the future.
The children representing SHV on the day were: Ruby, Sviat, Ava, Edgar and Ava.
