World book Day 2025
At Sandhill View, we take great joy in celebrating World Book Day, as we recognise the importance of nurturing a love for reading among our students. This event holds a special place in our school calendar, offering a wonderful opportunity to share our passion for books and our favourite stories. Once again, this year, our staff participated by dressing up as characters from various books, adding to the celebration of reading.
All Sandhill View students engaged in a variety of activities throughout the day, beginning with a quiz during tutor time. The quiz featured questions about popular books, authors, and texts that students have studied.
Period one kicked off the SHV Travelling Story for all KS3 students. Teachers introduced Charles Dikens’ ‘The Signal Man’, and students made predictions about the story before reading the first section. This process continued with each lesson, where students read a new part of the story until it was completed by the end of the day.
During break and lunch, students visited the school library to vote for their favourite staff World Book Day costume and participate in the Book Swap Shop. Over the past few weeks, both students and staff donated books they no longer read to the shop. Students had the opportunity to pick a book to take home and enjoy, sparking lively discussions as they shared their favourite stories with one another.
Additionally, all students were able to claim a free World Book Day book or a £1 discount on a book of their choice. The tokens could be used at most supermarkets and bookstores.
At the end of the day the much-anticipated winner of the staff dress-up competition was announced which this year went to Miss Kennerly and Mr Roddy with best dressed department going to MFL!
