School Garden Still on the Grow

The return to school has brought excitement for many to see what changes have happened over the summer holidays. The school garden is no different, there is a plethora of vegetables ready for harvesting including tomatoes, onions, carrots, cabbages and potatoes! These vegetables will be used during the Great Big Green Week which runs from the 24th September to the 2nd October. This event is the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. The Eco Team have created information slides which are shared on year base TVs to encourage small changes to have a big impact.

We have also returned to school to find we have been awarded our Bronze Award for the Green Tree Schools Award from the Woodland Trust, which is a huge accomplishment for students who have worked hard planting over 400 trees around school. We have also been awarded our Level 3 in the RHS School Gardening awards for the creation of wildlife areas in the school garden by building a bug hotel to encourage pollinators to overwinter in the garden and install 6 new bird boxes to support songbirds in spring.
