At this time of year, the garden is buzzing back to life and our school garden is no exception. It has been an extremely busy few weeks for our Eco Team. Students have been planting beetroot and radish directly into our vegetable garden and have been hardening off existing plants outside to get them ready to be planted outside. Students are working towards their RHS level two school gardening awards and have recently submitted their evidence to be reviewed!

There has also been a special delivery… our school polytunnel has arrived and is ready to be put up over the next few weeks! This will allow students to access the garden during winter and be able to grow a greater range of fruit, vegetables and flowers!

Students from the Eco Team and the Bridge have made excellent progress and are planting vegetables nearly as fast as the weeds are growing! We have had our first harvest of rhubarb that students are planning on making a crumble with.

This weekend is forecast to be sunny and is a fantastic opportunity to get out into the garden as the weather starts to warm up and experience the benefits that gardening can have on your mental and physical health! This time of year, is perfect for sowing sunflower seeds and is a great opportunity to have a competition of who can grow the tallest sunflower; they are also fantastic for encouraging wildlife into your garden in autumn as songbirds are attracted to the sunflower seeds!
