Eco Team on Tour

It was another busy week for our Eco Team, council meetings, potting young plants and attending a Generation Green Residential trip.

The team spent much of the morning potting on young cabbages and lettuces which were planted last month. Students worked extremely hard and learnt new skills and are thoroughly enjoying their gardening journey.

Dylan Douglas represented Sandhill View at Sunderland’s Environmental, Green and Sustainability team meeting at City Hall, where he shared the vision of our Eco Team and the progress that has been made around school. Other members of the group commented on the commitment school has to sustainability and are excited to watch it grow.

Students from the Eco Team and other students interested in sustainability and the environment had an amazing time at YHA Boggle Hole participating in the YHA’s Generation Green project. Students learnt about the importance of National Parks and the work that is involved in maintaining these areas. Students completed activities in team building, raft making and had a fantastic session about future ‘Green Careers’ to inspire our next generation of Green Leaders. Students surveyed rock pools studying the rich biodiversity of the Boggle Hole and helped the Park Authority maintain parts of the Cleveland Way. The emphasis of the residential trip was to inspire the next generation of green leaders. Students were praised for their maturity and dedication to the environment and sustainability and we as teachers are extremely proud of how they represented Sandhill View Academy!

Finally, we’ve had some fantastic coverage of all the efforts our school eco team have been undertaking recently from the Sunderland Echo. Read the full article here!
